Sappi Has Third-Quarter Profit on Higher Paper Prices in Europe, Exports

(Bloomberg) -- Sappi Ltd., the world's largest maker
of glossy paper, posted a fiscal third-quarter profit after
raising prices in Europe and lifting exports.

Net income was $53 million, or 23 cents a share, in the
three months through June, compared with a $53 million loss a
year earlier, Johannesburg-based Sappi said in a stock exchange
statement today. Sales gained 6.8 percent to $1.3 billion.

George Weston quarterly profit drops 30 pct

(Reuters) - The results were lower than analysts' average expectation of a profit of C$1.02 a share, according to Reuters Estimates.



Sales for the quarter were C$7.74 billion, up from C$7.51 billion in the corresponding quarter of last year.

UPDATE 1-Russel Metals second-quarter profit drops

(Reuters) - Russel, one of the largest metals distribution companies in
North America, said it earned C$29.3 million ,
or 47 Canadian cents a share, in the quarter ended June 30,
down from C$46.2 million, or 74 Canadian cents a share, in the
year-earlier quarter.




Sales for the Mississauga, Ontario-based company were C$653
million, down from C$686 million.

Yangtze Power's Profit Jumps 72 Percent on Output and Sale of Bank Stake

(Bloomberg) -- China Yangtze Power Co., operator of
the world's biggest hydropower project, said first-half profit
jumped 72 percent after the company sold shares in a bank and as
electricity output rose.

Net income surged to 2.25 billion yuan ($298 million), or
0.268 yuan a share, from 1.31 billion yuan, or 0.16 yuan, a year
earlier, Yangtze Power said in a statement to Shanghai's stock
exchange today. Sales rose 12 percent to 3.4 billion yuan.

Moog posts higher quarterly earnings, revises 2007 view

(Reuters) - Sales in the latest quarter rose 21 percent to $403.8
million. Analysts on average expected $370.6 million.




The company revised its outlook for the year and said it
expects earnings of $100.6 million, or $2.33 a share, on
revenue of $1.54 billion. Analysts on average expects earnings
of $2.36 a share on revenue of $1.48 billion.

Benchmark quarterly profit falls

(Reuters) - Excluding costs related to restructuring and other items,
the profit would have been 39 cents a share. Sales for the
period rose to $756 million from $749 million a year ago.




Analysts had forecast earnings of 38 cents a share,
excluding items, and revenue of $756.8 million, according to
Reuters Estimates.

Existing home sales fell in June

(Reuters) - Economists polled by Reuters were expecting home resales to fall to a 5.88 million-unit pace from the 5.99 million-unit rate initially reported for May. Sales were revised in May to 5.98 million units.




The inventory of homes for sale fell 4.2 percent to 4.196 million units at the end of June, which represents an 8.8 months' supply.

UPDATE 1-Rothmans profit rises in first quarter

(Reuters) - Rothmans will pay a dividend of 30 Canadian cents per share
Sept. 17.




Sales at Rothmans Benson & Hedges Inc., which is a 60
percent owned unit, net of excise duty and taxes, rose to
C$177.4 million from C$162.9 million a year earlier.

Mobile-8 Telecom, Vietnam, Shinhan Card, Hyundai Capital: Asia Bond Alert

(Bloomberg) -- PT Mobile-8 Telecom, an Indonesian
mobile-phone operator that counts Qualcomm Inc. as an investor,
and Vietnam are among borrowers seeking to sell at least $7
billion of bonds in Asia, according to data compiled by
Bloomberg.

Governments and companies in Asia sold $43.6 billion of
debt denominated in dollars, euros and yen this year, up from
$37.5 billion a year earlier, Bloomberg data show. Sales of
Samurai bonds, yen debt sold by foreign entities in Japan, rose
to 1.4 trillion yen ($11.6 billion), from 741 billion yen in the
whole of 2006.

Shoprite Holdings Full-Year Sales Rise 16 Percent on Consumer Spending

(Bloomberg) -- Shoprite Holdings Ltd., South Africa's
second-largest grocer, said annual sales gained 16 percent after
faster economic growth boosted consumer spending.

Sales in the 12 months through June 30 reached 38.9 billion
rand ($5.6 billion), compared with the year earlier, Cape Town-
based Shoprite said in a stock exchange statement today. Revenue at
the main Shoprite brand increased 14 percent while the Checkers
chain advanced 15 percent, the company said.

SSAB Q2 profit below consensus

(Reuters) - The firm said that deliveries of quenched steels were
negatively affected by the ongoing investment projects and by
minor disruptions in production in the second quarter, although
deliveries rose 3 percent year-on-year.




Sales in the second quarter were 9.1 billion crowns against
a forecast 8.97 billion crowns.
