Gemstar-TV Guide profit rises 42 percent

(Reuters) - Second-quarter net income was $20.8 million or 5 cents per share, compared with $14.6 million or 3 cents per share a year before. Revenue rose 17 percent to $155.6 million.




Analysts, on average, had expected earnings of 4 cents per share and revenue of $149.4 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

Intercontinental Exchange Profit Rises 73 Percent as Energy Trading Gains

(Bloomberg) -- Intercontinental Exchange Inc., which
lost its bid to acquire the Chicago Board of Trade this month,
said second-quarter net income jumped 73 percent on increased
energy trading.

Profit rose to $53.7 million, or 75 cents per share, from
$31 million, or 52 cents per share, in the year-earlier period,
Atlanta-based Intercontinental said. Revenue jumped to $136.7
million in the quarter, up 86 percent from $73.6 million.

Celgene 2nd-qtr earnings jump on cancer drug sales

(Reuters) - Excluding one-time items, the company earned 26 cents a
share. On that basis, analysts on average expected 23 cents a
share, according to Reuters Estimates.




Revenue rose 76.4 percent to $348 million.

UPDATE 1-Check printer Deluxe posts profit, ups 2007 view

(Reuters) - Net income for the St. Paul, Minnesota-based company was
$36 million, or 69 cents per share. A year earlier, it posted a
net loss of $2.4 million, or 5 cents per share, reflecting a
large write-off.




Revenue fell 1 percent to $399.9 million, while selling,
general and administrative expenses dropped 4 percent.

AutoNation quarterly profit up

(Reuters) - Income from continuing operations was 38 cents a share.




Revenue fell to about $4.6 billion from about $4.9 billion
a year earlier, as a weak housing market led to a decline in
sales, particularly in the key markets of California and
Florida.

UPDATE 1-Consol Energy 2nd-quarter earnings climb

(Reuters) - Net earnings in the quarter rose to $153 million, or 83
cents per share, versus $111 million, or 59 cents per share,
for the year-ago quarter.




Revenues rose to $1.06 billion from $932 million.

UPDATE 1-Royal Caribbean profit rises but lowers view

(Reuters) - Royal Caribbean, the world's second-largest cruise operator
after Carnival Corp. , said second-quarter net profit
rose to $128.7 million, or 60 cents per share, from $122.4
million, or 57 cents per share, in the same quarter last year,
boosted by cost-cutting and the acquisition of Spanish cruise
line Pullmantur




Revenues rose to $1.5 billion from $1.3 billion, as the
addition of Pullmantur helped increase capacity by 12 percent.

Meredith posts higher quarterly profit

(Reuters) - The publisher of Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle magazines reported net earnings for its fiscal fourth quarter of $51.5 million, or $1.05 per share, up from $48.6 million, or 97 cents a share, a year before.



Revenue rose 2.1 percent to $428.5 million.

UPDATE 1-Zarlink posts first-quarter loss

(Reuters) - Zarlink, which is buying semiconductor firm Legerity
Holdings Inc. for $134.5 million in cash, said it lost $5.0
million, or 5 cents a share, in the three months ended June 29.
That's down from a profit of $4.2 million, or 3 cents per
share, in the same period a year earlier.




Revenue was $30.6 million, down from $38.4 million a year
earlier.

Countrywide profit down 33 pct

(Reuters) - Shares of Countrywide fell as much as 8.7 percent to their lowest level since November 2005.




Second-quarter net income for the Calabasas, California-based company fell to $485.1 million, or 81 cents per share, from $722.2 million, or $1.15, a year earlier. Revenue fell 15 percent to $2.55 billion.

CORRECTED - UPDATE 1-EMC profit up as software, hardware sales increase

(Reuters) - NEW YORK, July 24 - EMC Corp , the No. 1 maker of corporate data storage equipment, posted a 20 percent rise in quarterly profit Tuesday on strong software and hardware sales. Second-quarter net income rose to $334.4 million, or 16 cents per share, from $279.1 million, or 12 cents a share, a year earlier.



Revenue rose 21 percent to $3.12 billion, driven by strong sales of information storage products.

UPDATE 1-RPM International posts profit vs loss

(Reuters) - Profit was $84 million, or 65 cents a share, in the fourth
quarter ended May 31, compared with a year-ago loss of $142
million, or $1.21 a share.




Revenue rose 10.6 percent to $1.0 billion, the Medina,
Ohio-based company said.

Citigroup profit rises 18 percent

(Reuters) - Revenue jumped 20 percent to $26.63 billion, while operating expenses were up 16 percent.




Analysts, on average, expected profit of $1.13 per share on revenue of $24.88 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.

Russia's Rostelekom 2006 net profit jumps 49 pct

(Reuters) - Net profits, to International Financial Reporting Standards, increased to 1.46 billion roubles from 0.98 billion roubles in 2005, the company said.



Revenues also rose by around 50 percent to stand at 61.56 billion roubles, compared with 40.96 billion roubles in 2005.

UPDATE 1-U.S. Bancorp 2nd-quarter profit falls 4 percent

(Reuters) - Net income for the Minneapolis-based company fell to $1.16
billion, or 65 cents per share, from $1.2 billion, or 66 cents,
a year earlier. Revenue rose 1.5 percent to $3.51 billion.




Analysts on average forecast a profit of 67 cents per share
on revenue of $3.48 billion, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shoprite Holdings Full-Year Sales Rise 16 Percent on Consumer Spending

(Bloomberg) -- Shoprite Holdings Ltd., South Africa's
second-largest grocer, said annual sales gained 16 percent after
faster economic growth boosted consumer spending.

Sales in the 12 months through June 30 reached 38.9 billion
rand ($5.6 billion), compared with the year earlier, Cape Town-
based Shoprite said in a stock exchange statement today. Revenue at
the main Shoprite brand increased 14 percent while the Checkers
chain advanced 15 percent, the company said.
